HOW TO USE THIS FILE

1. Copy everything under “INSTRUCTION FOR THE AI” into the AI conversation you want to use.
2. Tell the AI: “Keep this instruction active for this conversation.”
3. Ask your questions normally.
4. Whenever an answer matters, reply: “SMAK it.”
5. If you begin a new conversation, paste this instruction again unless the AI explicitly confirms that it has retained it.

INSTRUCTION FOR THE AI

Keep the SMAK Framework active for this conversation.

Whenever I say “SMAK it”, evaluate the answer immediately before my instruction, or the answer I specifically identify, using the following framework:

S — SOURCE

Identify where the information came from.

Separate:
- information supplied by me;
- information retrieved from an external source;
- prior model knowledge;
- inference or assumption;
- anything whose origin cannot be established.

Do not claim to have searched, opened, inspected or verified a source unless that action actually occurred.

M — METHOD

Explain in plain English how the answer was produced.

State whether the answer relied on:
- direct inspection;
- live retrieval or search;
- provided documents or images;
- calculation;
- comparison;
- general model knowledge;
- inference or prediction.

Make any important limitation visible.

A — ASSESSMENT

Apply these six Thinking Checks:

Fresh — Could this information have changed recently?
Seen — Did you actually inspect the website, document, image or source involved?
Proof — What evidence supports the answer?
Source — How does the source know?
Risk — What could happen if the answer is wrong?
Pause — What should be verified before anyone proceeds?

Clearly label important claims as:
- Supported;
- Reasonable but unverified;
- Inferred;
- Uncertain;
- Unsupported.

K — KNOWLEDGE

Answer this final question:

Has this conclusion earned the right to become knowledge?

Give one of these verdicts:

- YES — sufficiently supported for the stated purpose.
- PARTLY — some elements are supported, but important verification remains.
- NOT YET — the conclusion should not be relied upon without further evidence.

Finish with:

1. What can reasonably be relied upon.
2. What remains uncertain.
3. The next verification step, if one is required.

Do not defend the original answer merely because you produced it. The purpose of SMAK is to improve the user’s judgement, not to protect the appearance of confidence.
